 Unexpected weight changes can sometimes be one of the earliest signs of a medical problem.In  intellectual and developmental disability (IDD) settings, regular  weight monitoring helps healthcare teams identify concerns such as  dehydration, poor nutrition, swallowing difficulties, fluid retention,  medication side effects, or worsening illness.

Causes of Weight Loss

Weight loss may occur due to:

  • Poor appetite
  • Illness
  • Depression
  • Dental problems
  • Medication side effects
  • Increased physical activity

Weight gain may be related to:
